Verso Paper to Invest $40 Million in Biomass Plant at Bucksport Mill

Verso Paper Corp, a known coated paper company, has declared the setting up of its renewable energy project utilizing biomass. The $40 million renewable energy project launched at its Bucksport, Maine mill, will allow the mill to augment its thermal energy production by 43% which can be equated to meeting the total power requirement of over 30,000 households of Maine.

The company is planning to replace its currently utilized coal boiler with a biomass boiler and install a 25 MW turbine generator to achieve energy efficiency. The company has received its funding from Efficiency Maine, an independent cartel which invests in cost-saving renewable energy projects that keeps the environment clean.

Mike Jackson, President and CEO of Verso, said that the announced project clearly depicts the point of view of the company towards renewable energy and how the company wants to lead by example. He added that the company has more capability to produce renewable energy by utilizing green biomass, which in turn will reduce the carbon discharge while improving the energy efficiency of the company.
