Toughstuff Solar Brings Affordable Solar Lighting to African Villages

ToughStuff Solar, a company that offers cost effective solar powered equipment to the lower strata of people, has announced the availability of its ToughStuff solar panel and a solar powered lamp for a low cost.

The company gifts £10 from every sale it made in the UK or other parts of Europe towards Solar Village Entrepreneur (SVE) fund, which receives a matching grant from a European Government scheme to total the donation to £20.

The solar kit is  built robust and includes an exclusive supple and light-weight solar panel and a bright rechargeable type of LED lamp. The solar panel can be used even in low light conditions. The LED lamp incorporates four levels of light settings and offers lighting up to 30 hours. The kit provides practical usages such as use as an emergency lamp during the power cuts, or use as a normal lamp to light a camp or shed.

The amount collected through the funding is utilized for offering micro loans and required training for SVEs to enter into small yet profitable type of businesses and resulted in an increase of 300% in annual average income of the locals. From the date of launching the scheme the company has saved over £2.6 million to help around 425,000 families with affordable solar energy and in turn offset over 2,500 tons of carbon dioxide discharges.
