Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam to Increase Hydropower Capacity by 1600 MW

The Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam (UJVNL), an Indian State owned hydropower manufacturer, is planning to add 1500 to 1600 MW of hydropower capability during the next four to five years. The company’s total installed capacity is currently 1305 MW.

The company officials revealed that preparation and submission of comprehensive design reports for a 600 MW, 120 MW and 300 MW projects, had already been carried out by UJVNL. Additional projects with capacities of 100MW, 300MW and 120MW were also being planned.

Thaplial, UJVNL’s Managing Director, disclosed that the firm was enlisting 74 Junior Engineers and 87 Assistant Engineers for this project. On his retirement this month, the post was taken up by G.D. Patel, the Company’s Executive Director.

UJVNL’s vision is to be a significant and efficient organization in the National Power Sector, contributing to the improvement in standards in Uttarakhand. This company was established in 2001, with plans to develop the high potential Uttarakhand area with respect to the hydropower industry.
