Schott Solar Launches Sales Office in Greece

Schott Solar, a Germany-based solar power and photovoltaic parts provider, has established a new sales office in Thessaloniki, Greece, as it plans to improve its South European market.

The company said that the global irradiance levels in Thessaloniki ranging from 1,400 to 1,700 KWh/m2  is the most suitable environment for photovoltaic operations.

The new solar energy feed-in tariff s policies are ensuring feed-in tariff  of 40-50% /KWh for a period of 20 years and finishing 0.8 GW cap per year on fresh installations. These polices are helping in the growth of the photovoltaic market in Greece.

Martin Heming, CEO of Schott Solar, commented that the photovoltaic market in Greece is growing quickly and in this year itself, about 120 MW outputs were established. The company is anticipating an output capacity between 180 and 200 MW in 2011, he added. The company’s mid-term goal is to achieve a 5 to 10% share in the Greece market, he continued.

Schott Solar has been active in the Greece market for over 10 years. The company in partnership with a local company had installed solar panels at Athens International Airport in 2004. The company will commence construction of a 2-MW project in the country during the start of 2011. The company’s establishment of a sales office in Greece is part its globalization strategy to decrease its dependency on German market.
