Renewable Energy Firm, Juwi Establishes New UK Subsidiary

Germany-based green energy company, Juwi has selected Birmingham to establish its UK subsidiary. The new company called Juwi Renewable Energies, is expected to create about 60 positions in the areas of site acquisition, engineering, project construction and sales, office & marketing jobs by 2012. The company plans to develop over 60-MW solar energy projects in the country in the coming two years.

Juwi Renewable plans to operate with farmers, landlords, local residents, and large roof-top owners to develop  solar energy facilities mainly in the southern region of the country. The new UK regulation, which motivates people to generate their own green power by providing incentives, provoked the company to launch its subsidiary in the country. The incentive recognized as feed-in tariffs, which is designed based on a similar program in Germany, was initiated in 2010.

Juwi Solar’s business development manager, Daniel Parsons, said that the selection of Birmingham city is based on various reasons, which include its location in the center of the country, its good road transport, its international airport connections to Germany and its excellent support for business. The company is anticipating an enormous growth in the green energy sector in the coming two years. It is also considering the northern side of the city to develop projects.
