New Mexico’s Utility Company Announces Research to Use Solar Energy Efficiently

The largest utility company of New Mexico, Public Service Company of New Mexico (PNM), has announced a collaboration with scientists for developing a new way to use solar energy efficiently. Scientists will develop a way to access solar energy as per the need even during night, and save the energy when it is not needed.

The US Department of Energy (DoE) has granted above $2 million to the utility for the research project. The DoE awarded the grant as part of its initiative to enhance the country’s electrical grid, and make clean energy more reliable.

PNM is constructing a solar photovoltaic panel system with a capacity of 500 kW, in Albuquerque. The utility is developing the solar system for its Prosperity Energy Storage project. The energy generated from the solar system will be stored in a battery system, which is as big as eight shipping containers together.
