Dokie Wind Project Begins Generating Electricity

GE Energy Financial Services and Plutonic participated Dokie Wind Project has started generating electricity according to Mortenson Canada, the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractor of the project. The mechanical installing of all the 48 wind turbines have been concluded.

The company also mentioned that the final testing and commissioning of nine wind turbines have already been completed and they are ready to commence power generation. The $228 million project jointly owned by GE Energy Financial Services and Plutonic through Dokie General Partnership, resumed its constructions earlier during December 2009. The project in addition to the installation of wind turbines and the construction of a substation also includes laying of 230 kV power transmission lines for a distance of seven kilometers. The project designed to generate 320,000-340,000 MWh/a is expected to attain its commercial operation status in the early part of 2011. The wind power project situated around 1,100 km northwest of Vancouver and in close proximity to Chetwynd, will trade the generated power to Powerex, an auxiliary company of BC Hydro.

Donald McInnes, Plutonic Power’s Vice-Chairman and CEO, said that the wind project is the first joint venture wind project of the companies in Canada and the commencement of power generation will provide his company a solid growth in the wind energy market.
