SunPower Contracts Accord with Iberdrola Renewables to Construct Solar Plant

SunPower declared that it has signed an accord with Iberdrola Renewables to formulate and construct a 20 MW solar photovoltaic power plant, over 144 acres of private land that was previously utilized for agricultural purposes, at Copper Crossing, in Pinal County, Arizona.

The power plant will incorporate SunPower Oasis, a fully structured modular solar power block that generates power cost-effectively and requires least land for installation. Each of the power blocks will incorporate SunPower T0 solar Tracker along with E19 series of solar panels manufactured by SunPower along with the pre-fabricated cabling system and other sophisticated features. The pre-fabricated power block kits allow easy and quicker installation and provide top level power conversion efficiency for long term reliable power generation performance. Construction of the plant, which commenced during last month, is expected to be completed and become fully functional by 2011. The construction is anticipated to create approximately 200 jobs during the period of construction.

Iberdrola Renewables, which develops the Copper Crossing solar plant will own the plant and operate it. It has plans to sell the power generated from the plant to Salt River Project, a local utility company under a long-term accord. The project is expected to create employment and revenue opportunities for health, schools, fire and a host of critical service providers in Pinal County.
