Belen High School now boasts a 50 kW solar photovoltaic (PV) system installed with the assistance of SCHOTT Solar and Consolidated Solar Technologies (CST). The installed solar system received its funding from Governor Bill Richardson sponsored grant system, which sanctioned the funds from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Belen is one among the 15 school districts from the state chosen to receive the funding through a competitory grant method. The school district has plans to introduce a syllabus on solar technology around the system that incorporates subjects such as business, science, social sciences and mathematics. The solar system installed by Consolidated Solar Technologies is spread over an area of 20,000 square foot and incorporates SCHOTT POLY type of solar modules. The installed power system is expected to save the school over $20,000 on its energy spending every year.
Tom Hecht, SCHOTT Solar PV’s President and Chief Sales Officer, said that his company assists in the development of a strong solar industry in the state as well as all over the nation by offering its reliable and established solar modules. He expressed his happiness to associate with CST in the New Mexico school project to help the school to save money on its power spending and to assist in their environmental obligations.
