ABB, a leader in the field of power and automation technology, would be providing electrical, mechanical and automation machinery and equipment for the Mayo B hydroelectric Project, which is a Yukon Energy undertaking sited on the Mayo River in the Yukon region of Canada.
Yukon is developing this project mainly to fulfill the company’s mounting demands for electricity. It is planning to modernize the current hydro infrastructure and amplify the power generation from 5 MW to 15 MW. This is to ensure that there is a continuous and safe supply of clean energy, which is cost-effective at the same time.
ABB has formed an alliance with Chongqing Yunhe Hydropower Group and this project is a part of the alliance. The Chongqing group is one of the world’s foremost turbine providers in the small hydro segment, and would be supplying the generators and turbines needed for this project. ABB would provide the excitation system, assorted electrical and mechanical auxiliaries and the governor system. It would also furnish its services on site for the successful completion of the project by 2011.
According to Gary Shaw, General Manager and Vice President of Power Generation Canada, ABB, small hydro would be a significant part of the future power generation in the world, and ABB’s solutions would be beneficial to the developers of projects like the Mayo B.ABB has a widespread range of solutions for renewable energies and focuses on hydro mainly, along with its partners for providing total water to wire offerings.
