Tennessee Valley Authority Inks 20-Year Power Purchase Agreement with Horizon Wind

The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) announced that it has entered into a 20-year contract with Horizon Wind Energy for supply of 44 MW of clean energy. Horizon will supply wind energy from its Pioneer Prairie wind farm, located in Iowa. The wind farm has 50 Vestas 1.65 MW turbines.

TVA anticipates receiving electricity supply starting from January 2012. However, the renewable energy supply is subject to obtaining firm transmission arrangements and environmental requirements. The contract is the second power purchase agreement signed by TVA in 2010. TVA has already signed a wind energy purchase agreement with Horizon in February for about 115 MW of renewable power.

With the new deal, TVA has entered into contracts for approximately 1,600 MW of wind power in total. The total clean energy portfolio of TVA includes above 4,300 MW from wind, solar, hydro and methane sources.
