Enel Green Power to Construct Wind Energy Plant in Italy

A new Wind power plant has started operations at San Floro Maida in Catanzaro in Italy. The wind farm’s first phase of 44 MW capacity has been completed out of the total 64 MW wind capacity. It consists of 32 wind turbines with a 2 MW capacity each.

The project would produce more than 150 million kWh of power per year, which is equivalent to powering almost 56,000 homes and would also reduce CO2 emissions of a hundred thousand tons every year. In the meantime, another wind farm at Contrada Coniglia, located in Sicily’s Trapani province, has also started construction work. It includes 10 wind turbines of 2 MW capacity each .Enel plans to start operating this unit by 2011 beginning and would provide 43 million kWh per year sufficient for fifteen thousand homes and reducing CO2 emissions by 30,000 tons.

At present, Enel Green Power has an overall installed capacity of 2,600 MW in Italy wherein 450 MW comes from wind energy. Almost 21 billion kWh of energy is produced from sun, biomass, geothermal, wind and water resources by Enel and its subsidiary companies.
