The Suzlon Group, established in 1995 with an initial employee list of 20 people, has proclaimed that it has achieved 15 GW of collective installations in 25 countries all over the world, accounting for 9% of the world’s overall wind power installations.
The cumulative power generation from the 15,000 MW was sufficient to power 13 million homes each year. The company’s installations include 5 GW by REpower Systems and 10 GW by Suzlon Energy. Suzlon is a majority shareholder in REpower owning 90% of its shares.
Tulsi R Tanti, Managing Director, Chairman and Founder of Suzlon Energy, commented that the 15,000 MW capacities was a significant milestone for the group and that there was still an amazing untapped potential left for the future endeavors of the company. He further revealed that wind potential worldwide was calculated to be 72,000 GW. The main markets for Suzlon was the US with 2359 MW capacity installations, India with 5,240 MW and Germany with its 1,647 MW. According to the company reports, the company leads the market in wind energy in Australia, Brazil and in India.
Suzlon has operations in Asia, Americas, Europe and Australia with an employee strength of over 16,000 people. It has a completely integrated supply chain along with manufacturing facilities in three continents. Suzlon’s market share in Asia is 9.8% making it the third biggest wind turbine manufacturer in the world. It has refined R&D facilities in countries such as Netherlands, India, Germany, Denmark and Belgium.
