Iberdrola Renewables Enters Power Purchase Deals for New Harvest Wind Farm

Iberdrola Renewables announced that it has sold the renewable energy output from the New Harvest wind power plant to Ameren Illinois, and Commonwealth Edison (ComEd). The wind power project is being developed in Crawford County, Iowa.

The 20-year contract has been signed to supply an equal amount of energy output to ComEd and Ameren Illinois, beginning June 2012. Iberdrola Renewables will own the wind power farm, which will be installed with 50 Gamesa G87 wind turbines. The wind power plant is expected to produce a maximum of 100 MW of electricity, and to offset about 335,000 tons of carbon dioxide per year, equivalent to eliminating 64,000 cars off the road.

The New Harvest Wind Power plant will help Illinois to match the increasing demand for electricity. The road construction on the plant site has begun in 2010, while the delivery and installation of turbines are anticipated to commence in spring. The wind project is expected to generate about 100 jobs in construction, and five jobs in operations and maintenance in Iberdrola Renewables.

The project will help the local economy in paying property taxes, which will support public health, library, schools, fire and other necessities of Crawford County.
