American Wind Alliance’s Wind Projects Obtain Priority Ranking

American Wind Alliance (AWA) announced that it has received priority ranking for two of its wind energy projects. The wind farms received the ranking for energy transmission alongside the shoreline of Lake Huron, under the Feed-In Tariff program of the Ontario Power Authority. The combined capacity of the wind projects is 265 MW.

The Twenty Two Degree Wind Energy project that has 150 MW capacity and the Arran Wind Energy project that has 115 MW capacity have been ranked among the leading 700 MW clean energy projects in the first round of Feed-In Tariff applications. The power line for the projects is being constructed. These projects have been prioritized because of their relevant experience, financial depth and available supply of turbine.

T. Boone Pickens, who started the Mesa Power Group, commented that the priority ranking will bring AWA nearer to 20-year power purchase agreements. Mesa Power Group is the parent company of AWA.

Other two projects of AWA, the 100 MW Summerhill project in Clinton and the 200 MW North Bruce project in Port Elgin, are being assessed by the Ontario Power Authority among the second round applications.
