Edison International’s subsidiary, Edison Mission Group, announced that it has started the commercial operation at its Cedro Hill wind project in Bruni, Texas. The total capacity of the wind project is 150 MW.
The wind project is the third project of Edison Mission Group in Texas, after the 149 MW Goat project near San Angelo, and the 161 MW Wildorado Wind Ranch project near Amarillo.
The electricity generated from the Cedro Hill wind project is being bought by San Antonio-based, municipally owned utility, CPS Energy, under a 20-year power purchase agreement. The wind farm comprises 100 GE wind turbines with each having a capacity of 1.5 MW. The wind farm has the potential to produce enough electricity for 40,000 homes, at its full capacity.
The Cedro Hill wind farm is spread over an area of 20,000 acres. At the La Quinta switching station, the wind project is interconnected to the electric grid, while it is connected to CPS Energy over the Lobo-Falfurrias transmission line. The project helps the local economy by offering $100 million in payments to landowners and property taxes for the coming 20 years.
