Tenesol, a company jointly owned by leading energy companies TOTAL and EDF, introduces a custom-built dual-glass type BIPV (building integrated photovoltaic) solar module in the European market.
The new module allows the building and designing companies a flexibility to offer solar solutions to suit the construction style of the building. The solar modules can be manufactured to meet any design, size, shape, color and style requirement of a construction and fulfils the necessities of current European Building Regulations.
The company has plans to manufacture the BIPV modules in France and the modules with solar thermal and solar electric attributes can be integrated to sunshades, glass-roofs and facades. The new modules are anticipated to be available in the European markets during early part of 2011. Tenesol has plans to directly work with the building architects to produce a typical bespoke dual-glass system that meets the design need of the construction. The company will allow the clients to define the size of the module up to a maximum of 4m x 2m, glass thickness, poly or mono type of PV cells, the number of cells required and the design structure of the module to be manufactured.
The dual-glass solar modules are designed to visibly get along with the structure of the building construction and the junction boxes of the modules are kept unseen to maintain the good appearance of the installed system. For increased power generation, the front glasses of the modules are kept crystal clear and are Heat Soak Tempered. The back side of the glasses is offered in a range of thicknesses and designs.
