Moser Baer Commissions Grid Connected Solar Farm in Tamil Nadu

Moser Baer Clean Energy (MBCEL) has declared the commissioning of its 5 MW solar project located at Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu. The power generated from the solar farm will be linked to a 110 KVA grid of the government.

The company has won a global bid for the project awarded under the phase 1 of the National Solar Mission of India. Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency (TEDA) has awarded the project to the company under a Generation-Based Incentive scheme sponsored by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), of the Indian Government. The solar farm incorporates amorphous silicon thin film solar modules for increased power generation. The solar panels utilized in the project were bought from Moser Baer Solar Limited. The solar panels are found to be suitable for use in high level temperature conditions prevailing in India. The project received technical advice for commissioning from the EPC (Engineering Procurement Commissioning) division of Moser Baer Solar. Required financing for the project was provided by IDBI bank and International Finance Corporation.

According to Ratul Puri, the company’s director, the commissioning of large sized solar project justifies the acquired capabilities of the company in commissioning such projects. He added that India as a country receives about 5000 trillion Kwh/Yr of solar radiation, and enjoys an economy that is mostly domestic driven and suggested installation of more large sized solar farms to meet the energy requirement of the country.
