Porterdale’s hydroelectric plant is expected to recommence power supply by February 2011. The turbines and generators have been refurbished, and new transformers have been installed with $1 million having been spent so far. The plant is expected to produce 2 to 3 megawatts of electricity.
Vclear Resources’ CEO, Steven A. Odom, acquired the hydro plant in July with the added intent of installing a pilot drinking water filtration system. He has executed an agreement with Georgia Power for purchase and interconnection. Most of the generated electricity is to be supplied to Porterdale.
The 48-feet drop of water from the Yellow River dam to the Porterdale plant turbines will also help push the water through the filtration system. A full fledged plant would cost $30 -$40 million and would be able to supply 10 million gallons per day.
Vclear announces that it has hired Rockdale County Water Resources and Environmental Labs and Services for testing the water.
Environmental Labs, a certified microbiological and chemical drinking water analysis laboratory, reports that the filtration provides good quality water with not much of chemical addition. Odom claims that unlike reverse osmosis systems that filter out beneficial minerals, this filtration system leaves out good minerals while filtering harmful elements.
