North Jersey Media Group declared that it has contracted a partnership with KDC Solar to complete a solar power installation for its Rockaway printing and packaging facility. The proposed facility will incorporate 20,400 solar panels and generate around 4.2 million kWh of electric power every year.
The power generated from the facility is enough to provide electricity to 600 homes a year. The construction of the project is anticipated to start in the early part of 2011 and will get completed before the end of the year 2011.
According to Stephen Borg, North Jersey Media Group’s President, the company utilizes maximum quantity of recycled newsprint for its publications. It purchases news prints from a supplier who follows zero% deforestation and produces paper utilizing the wood that is not cut for the purpose. The printing house utilizes non-chemical soy-based inks for printing. The company proposes to install the solar panels all over its production facility including car ports to generate enough power to meet nearly 50% of its power requirements.
Hal Kamine, CEO of KDC Solar, said, that the solar power installation will augment the ecological efforts of the North Jersey Media Group. He added that the behind-the-meter type of solar electric system will serve the power requirements of over 1,100 employees of the Media Group.
