IMPSA, a manufacturer of renewable energy equipment is in the process of increasing its investment in ANSYS software, which would create innovative hydro and wind turbines and make them more efficient, leading to increased customer satisfaction.
The company plans to utilize the entire range of ANSYS capabilities in complex applications such as structural mechanics, aerodynamic engineering, noise prediction, fluids dynamics, electric generation, control and power electronics and design life.
According to Dr. Bernardo Beling, IMPSA’s Director of Technology, the company’s R&D activities had developed a simulation-driven product, which would enhance the company’s global competitiveness, create superior customer value and reduce cost per unit of power generation. He also mentioned that the ANSYS solution would completely take care of the company’s future analysis and design needs.
A range of variables associated with interaction at the system, installation, manufacturing, operating behavior levels, creates a number of engineering challenges in the renewable energy industry. The conventional build and test approach is both time consuming and expensive and offers only a restricted insight into optimal designs. However the ANSYS Software coupled with multiphysics capabilities could help in optimizing the entire application design irrespective of the project being a large wind energy or small wind turbine project.
Ahmed Haidari, ANSYS’ Director of Energy Industry Marketing stated that advanced technology such as larger blades, multi-axis designs, new generators, gear less drivers, improved tower design and controllers are being introduced as the wind and turbine industry keeps growing and developing, and to obtain complete integrity of turbines and their components, engineers should develop a complete solution. He also stated that they could create differentiating products that would satisfy the challenging needs of renewable energy projects.
IMPSA has worked along with Engineering Simulation Scientific Software (ESSS), which is the distribution and support channel partner for ANSYS in South America for the sale. According to Marcus Reis, Vice President of ESSS, their relationship with IMPSA had grown considerably during the last ten years. They were also continuing the process of expansion of their resources all through South America supporting ANSYS fluids, electromagnetic and mechanical solutions.
