April has arrived and as the trees begin to bloom one thing comes to mind - remembering our world and all its valuable, but dwindling, resources. As Earth Day nears, Cotton Incorporated has reinforced its commitment to the environment by producing and participating in several special projects that communicate the importance of minimizing harm on the environmental footprint by being natural, sustainable, responsible and renewable.
A recent survey by Cotton Incorporated revealed that most consumers care about the environment, but have trouble understanding the terms used to differentiate one "green" product from another. One way that Cotton Incorporated has made it easy for consumers to identify 100% percent cotton products is by developing the new Natural(TM) trademark. This latest incarnation of the Seal of Cotton trademark is a timely reminder that cotton is a natural fiber and a natural part of consumers lives.
Another way that Cotton Incorporated is speaking to consumers is through the Go Green Expo taking place at the Hilton New York Hotel on April 26th and 27th. The Go Green Expo will feature the latest eco-friendly products and services that consumers can learn about to help reduce their environmental impact and lead a "greener" life. Cotton Incorporated will team with Good Housekeeping magazine to exhibit a lifestyle setting, highlighting tips for a natural living space. There will also be a special seminar taking place on April 26th at 12 - 1PM discussing the effects of going green titled "Cotton - The Natural Choice from Dirt to Shirt" with Dr. Kater Hake, Vice President Agriculture Research, Cotton Incorporated and Kathleen Huddy, Textile, Paper and Plastics Director of the Good Housekeeping Research Institute.
Cotton Incorporated has also reached out to the college aged consumer with the COTTON. FROM BLUE TO GREEN(TM) denim drive; an environmentally aware initiative in which denim is recycled into UltraTouch natural cotton fiber insulation and is donated for rebuilding houses in the hurricane-affected Gulf Coast region. This endeavor was originally developed to show college age consumers the benefits of a natural, renewable fabric. However, in 2007 the program was expanded to include retail partnerships.
Moving forward in 2008, on Tuesday, April 8th, National Jean Company and Earnest Sewn will host a fashion show to kick off Make an Earnest Difference, a five day charity denim drive in National Jean Company's New York stores where all donated denim will go to COTTON. FROM BLUE TO GREEN. Admittance to the fashion show at Slate Lounge will require a donation of an old pair of jeans, and National Jean Company will be accepting denim donations at New York store locations through April 13th.
GUESS will partner with the COTTON. FROM BLUE TO GREEN denim drive in April and May 2008. During the dates between April 19th and April 26th, GUESS customers can donate their own pair of jeans at select GUESS retail stores. This denim drive will be rolled out later into additional GUESS locations. In exchange for the donation, GUESS will offer a 10% discount towards the customer's next purchase of GUESS denim. Please go to AccessCotton.com or GUESS.com to find all participating locations.
In partnership with Macy's Turn Over a New Leaf program starting April 20th, Cotton Incorporated and Macy's have produced a 100% natural cotton tote bag that will be available at all Macy's stores nationwide. The tote bag is $3.95 with $1 of the purchase price directly benefiting the National Park Foundation; an organization chartered by Congress in 1967 to continue a century-long tradition of private philanthropy ensuring funding to preserve and enhance the legacy of our national parks.
