Kolin Construction Awarded Hydro Project in Georgia

Kolin Construction, a Turkish company, has been awarded a $150 million hydropower project by the Government of Georgia. The Energy Ministry revealed that Kolin would construct a cascade of four hydropower plants having a minimum total capacity of 105.7 MW in the River Tekhuri in Samegrelo region of Western Georgia.

As per the rules of the ministry, all investors who are granted hydropower plant concessions would also agree to sell the power produced for domestic consumption for ten years only during winter, for a period of three months every year. This is the period when the Soviet Republic frequently experiences power shortages. The rest of the time they can sell the power to any customer either in Georgia or overseas.

Kolin, established in 1977 in Elazig, has gained a reputation as a first class constructor of huge public and private developmental projects. It has completed 73 projects and has 28 projects in the wings. Its activities cover a wide area in Cyprus, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Libya and Jordan.
