Hydro Scheme Construction in Scotland Provides Job Opportunities

A new hydro electric facility is to be constructed in Scotland in the Argyll and Bute district, which would lead to the recruitment of Civil Engineering personnel. The Scottish Government has given permission to Gilkes Energy to construct a 1.7 MW hydro scheme in Ederline, which lies to the South of Loch Awe. This could mean the creation of several Civil engineering jobs.

According to the Finance Secretary, John Swinney, the new project would help to achieve sustainable economic advantages and was a splendid example of employing the country’s natural assets harmoniously with the environment for the creation of green, low carbon jobs. Mitsubishi Power Systems also has plans of investing £100 million in the wind power sector of Scotland. This would eventually lead to the creation of 200 new job opportunities over the next five year period.

Gilkes Energy was established in 2008, mainly to assist clients finance and develop hydropower projects; But its parent company Gilbert Gilkes and Gordan was formed in 1853 and designs and manufacturers 20 MW hydro electric turbines along with other ancillary equipment. Its vast experience in over 80 countries with turbine installations numbering 6500 makes it a world leader in the hydro turbine sector.
