TSMC has chosen CENTROSOLAR Group as the exclusive producer of crystalline solar modules for the European market, according to a deal signed by the firms. As per the deal, CENTROSOLAR will deliver 100 MWp capacity of initial solar modules annually utilizing solar cells offered by TSMC.
The two firms are also analyzing the possibilities of a partnership in the process engineering and product development areas. The firms will not disclose the terms of the deals.
CENTROSOLAR will produce the required solar modules in a new manufacturing facility next to its production plant in Wismar, Germany. According to the deal, the first set of deliveries will be during the third of 2011.
CENTROSOLAR can increase its solar module production capacity from 200 MWp to 500 MWp through its new production facility and warehouse in Wismar. The new facility will provide space for the firm to do both its contract production and own business. The first phase of construction, which is slated for completion by the third quarter of 2011, will increase the solar module production capacity by 150 MWp and create 300 jobs in Wismar that will bring the total jobs to 700. The enrollment can increase up to 1,000 once the new facility operates to full capacity.
The Senior Director in Charge at TSMC’s solar PV business, Ying-Chen Chao, stated that the new agreement with CENTROSOLAR would support the company’s efforts in thin-film solar product development.
