Boralex, a renewable energy generating and operating company from Canada, and Q-Cells, a photovoltaic manufacturing company, declared that they have commenced the construction of a solar power park located in southern France.
For its first ever solar park project, Boralax will associate with Q-Cells engineers in the construction of the park and the turnkey accord signed with Q-Cells will require it to provide engineering, construction and maintenance services for the power generation facility.
Boralex has fulfilled all the regulatory conditions for the construction of the Avignonet-Lauragais solar park and obtained the necessary funding required for building the park. The solar park proposed with an investment of around €14.6 million has received 85% of the funding from Landesbank Baden-Württemberg bank. The solar park will incorporate photovoltaic panels manufactured by Q-Cells and it will be constructed close to the Avignonet-Lauragais wind power project owned by Boralex thus enabling the company to generate solar and wind power from the same location.
Boralex is planning to commence the construction of the solar park on 15th January 2011 and anticipates completing the project and commencing its operations from May 2011. The solar project will improve the renewable energy portfolio of the company by 4.5 MW. Boralex has signed a 20 year accord with Électricité de France to sell the power generated from the park.
