SEMI, a global industry association serving display and PV industries and the microelectronics manufacturing supply chains, has expressed their confidence in India’s expanding PV/Solar industry.
They have also announced that Debasish Paul Choudhury has been appointed as the new President for SEMI India. Choudhury succeeds Sathya Prasad, who had been President, since the company’s inception and would still continue in an advisory role till the transition takes place. Choudhury would take over on 15th January 2011.
President and CEO of SEMI, Stanley Myers, remarked that Debasish Choudhury would offer his 16year valuable experience in the industry, which would prove to be a great boon for the SEMI members and the Indian Industry. Choudhury while accepting his post revealed that to become President of SEMI India was a matter of pride for him especially at a time when the industry was poised to see a tremendous growth with the entrance of new players. He also said they were looking forward to play a major role in enabling the growth phase for the Indian Solar/ PV sector.
Sathya Prasad commented that they were hoping for an exciting 2011, with a lot of activity on the solar/PV front. In its third year of operations in India, SEMI India would continue to promote the solar industry in India along with working towards developing superior technical standards, health and safety and environmental practices. It would also organize industry events and trade shows and help in promoting related research activities.
Choudhury would administer and also expand SEMI India’s Committees, Program, Services and Products in India and also reinforce relationships with SEMI members and the government, industry, academic and local associations. He would also offer support to SEMI members from regions in India who have an interest in SOLARCON India and also the PV manufacturing supply chain. Choudhury has served previously as Regional Editor and Country Manager for Trafalgar Publications for Global Solar Technology (Southeast Asia edition) and also its online version. He has also served as General Manager of the Electronics Business Group.
