ESA Renewables has commenced construction activities on a 1 MW PV solar farm in Culberson, North Carolina almost 200 miles southwest of Charlotte. The total generated electricity would be sold as per a 10 year power purchase agreement to the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA).
This electricity would add to the green power portfolio of TVA and provide renewable energy to their customers. ESA would own, design, and provide engineering, construction and procurement services for the solar farm. The farm would include 4,300 Canadian Solar Panels, which would generate 1,330,000 kWh of electricity on a yearly basis. The system is to be implemented on an ESA-owned 16 acre property with the solar farm taking up one third of the area and the rest allotted for added solar development. It is scheduled to start operating by February 2011 and is expected to be the biggest installation in the North Carolina region.
ESA’s goal is to develop ground-breaking strategies for spreading solar power usage and is also implementing several huge megawatt projects all over North Carolina to assist in this expansion. According to Jeffrey Burkett, ESA Renewables’ President, the company was looking forward to including renewable energy projects in TVA. He mentioned that they had completed numerous multi megawatt solar projects thus far and currently were focused on developing utility scale domestic renewable energy projects. These projects would definitely add to the development of solar power while stimulating the local economic growth and also help in creating new jobs in North Carolina and all over the US.
ESA Renewables is a leader in the turnkey solar PV systems industry and has solar PV units in Italy, Spain, Puerto Rico and in the US. Its headquarters is e at Castellon in Spain.
