BLT Enterprises, a Southern California-based private company engaged in developing and running of material recycling installations and transfer stations as well as treating and selling of reusable materials, feted the completion of its 382 kW solar photovoltaic installation.
The new installation will power the operations of its Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station (FRTS) situated in Fremont, California. The completion of the installation makes the transfer station as the first and only solar power using solid waste transfer and material recovery facility in Alameda County.
Solar Power designed the system that includes a combined construction of a rooftop racking and the shade structure for the parking lot and installed it for BLT Enterprises. The solar system will generate over 587,000 kWh of renewable electric power every year. The system while allowing the company to save on its electricity charges also will prevent approximately 447 metric tons of carbon discharges, which can be equated to maintaining forest cover over an area of 3.1 acres.
Shawn Guttersen, Vice President of BLT Enterprises, said that the design and installation of a solar PV system at the Fremont Recycling & Transfer Station amply evidences the clean energy initiatives of the company in reducing its carbon discharges and ecological impacts that affect the people served by the company in California.
