Constellation Energy has declared the deployment of solar systems at two locations in Maryland. It will develop a 500-kW on-site solar system deployment at Coppin State University in Baltimore and a 750-kW on-site solar deployment at Anne Arundel County’s Combined Support Services Complex located in Millersville.
The Maryland Energy Administration’s initiative, Project Sunburst is funding both the projects in part. Constellation Energy will also fund the projects and it will own and manage the on-site solar deployments. Both the organizations will buy the power generated by the solar systems at a cheaper price from Constellation Energy for a period of 20 years.
The on-site solar power system at the Combined Support Services Complex will use about 3,060 roof-mounted crystalline photovoltaic solar panels that will produce a projected 900,000 kWh of power per year. The new solar power system is anticipated to reduce 90% power consumption of the complex, saving nearly $80,000 in utility expenditures annually to the county.
The on-site solar power system at the Coppin State University will use about 2,040 roof-mounted crystalline photovoltaic solar panels that will generate over 600,000 kWh of electricity every year. Both the solar power systems will produce approximately 1.5 million kWh of power per year. The deployment of solar power systems will eliminate nearly 1,077 metric tons of CO2 emissions. Both solar power systems are slated for operation in the spring of 2011.
