Kyocera has proclaimed that it is expanding its solar portfolio with the addition of two assembly units, one in Tianjin in China and the second plant in Kadan in the Czech Republic. Consequent to the current brisk growth of the solar market, Kyocera has been gradually and incessantly expanding its cell and module manufacturing facilities and its production capacity worldwide.
It has begun the construction work on the second solar facility in the Czech Republic, which would be completed by 2011 fall and would have a 360 MW capacity per year, which when combined with the already existing Kyocera Group’s Czech plant will yield a total energy of 560 MW annually. This plant would be constructed close to the first Czech plant, which has been providing solar modules to the largest solar market i.e. Europe including three solar power plants in Spain with a total capacity of 53.1 MW.
Kyocera established its first solar module unit in Tianjin, China, in 2003 and its operations would be slowly moved to the new and expanded facility by 2011 spring. It would have a 360 MW production capacity per year when fully operational, which is about 3.5 times more than the current capacity. Kyocera’s annual production target of 1 GW by 31st March 2013 is being met by the new production facilities in Asia and in Europe along with other module facilities in Mexico, US and Japan. This expansion would help Kyocera to supply solar modules to fulfill the growing demand for solar energy worldwide.
According to Kyocera’s President, Tetsuo Kuba, the company wants to make its presence felt through its high performance and highly reliable solar products. He remarked that growth would be achieved by his company in the solar industry by employing their manufacturing technological capabilities and expansion of their global production capacity.
Kyocera, a Japanese company, was founded in 1959 and is famed for its supply of telecommunications equipment, printers, solar power generating systems, cutting tools, semiconductor packages, electronic components, industrial ceramics and copiers.
