Jeffco Public Schools have installed 3MW Distributed Solar Arrays and began generating Renewable Energy this year.
According to Jonathan Jaffrey, Renewable Social Benefit (RSB) Funds ‘ President, six 100 kW systems were installed in the service center of the Education Center, Mt. Carbon Elementary School, LakeWood High School, Columbine High School, Bear Creek High School, and Arvada West High School, out of the planned 30 separate arrays in the district. It is expected to decrease CO2 Emissions by around 100 tons.
Jeffco Schools’ Energy Manager, Thomas MacDonnell revealed that they were delighted to begin a greener New Year in contrast to the past years. This project would have a dual benefit by ensuring a healthier environment for the next generation students and also educating them about the advantages of RE projects. Jaffrey also mentioned that the energy was obtained at a discount when compared to the energy costs in the past and no out of pocket expenses were involved. With a rise in energy rates over a time period, more and more benefits would be reaped by Jeffco.
The solar project was funded by RSB Funds and the contractor for the project was Martifer Solar USA. Tecta, a roofing company is installing all the systems on the individual buildings and Golden Power has designed the solar arrays. RSB Funds, an alternative energy company is totally committed to implement solar power in schools, hospitals, low-income housing projects and also tax-exempted entities and governmental bodies. It is a company with charitable goals and develops solar projects for clients without asking for any initial investment from their side.
