Sun Edison, Duke Energy Activate Final Phase of Solar Farm in North Carolina

MEMC Electronic Materials’ subsidiary, Sun Edison and Duke Energy have declared the activation of the final phase of a 17.2-MW solar farm located in Davidson County, North Carolina.

The solar farm spanning more than 200 acres is developed in five phases. It is constructed with over 63,000 solar photovoltaic panels that are  estimated to produce about 28 million kWh per year, equivalent to the annual power demands of over 2,600 families.

As per the agreement between the two companies, SunEdison has designed and installed the project and will be accountable for the continuing operations and maintenance of the farm. Bank of America, Merrill Lynch and MetLife is  funding the project. The project’s rated capacity in terms of direct current is 17.2 MW and that of, in terms of alternating current is 15.5 MW.
