New South Wales Sanctions the construction of Solar Farm near Bungendore

A solar project constructed at a cost of nearly $150 million is coming up near Bungendore, a New South Wales town that is located east of Canberra.

The solar farm will cover approximately 100 hectares of land and will generate enough power to supply electricity to around 10,000 homes. A total of 32 blocks of solar panels are expected to be erected about 2 to 3 meters above the ground. The solar project is coming up near the Capital Wind Farm situated in the locality to make it convenient to get connected to the grid.

Steve Whan, Monaro member, said that the solar project construction has not received any objection. He added that while the construction of wind farms is associated with controversy, the building of solar farms normally get the support and this solar project is supported by the local community of the region.

Tony Mohr, who represents Australian Conservation Foundation, said that the project is awaited for a long time. He added that though the project supports power supply requirement of around 10,000, more number of such projects are required to support a number of homes and industries.
