UK Government Funds COFELY District Energy for Geothermal Project

Environmental efficiency and energy services company, COFELY District Energy has received GBP 200,000 as funding from the Deep Geothermal Challenge Fund of the Department of Energy and Climate Change's (DECC).

The fund is part of the refitting of deep geothermal well of the Southampton District Energy Scheme.

The Southampton District Energy Scheme is operated by the collaboration of Southampton City Council and COFELY District Energy. The scheme caters to various private and public properties located in Southampton. In addition, it uses a 1.7 km deep geothermal spring with traditional boilers, biomass and large scale combined heat and power (CHP) to produce chilled water, hot water and electrical power.

COFELY District Energy’s Chief Executive, Simon Woodward stated that the company is pleased with the Government funding for the geothermal well project. He added that the enhancements will increase the efficacy and minimize carbon emissions significantly.
