Pepco Energy Services to Construct Solar Project for the Department of Energy

Pepco Energy Services, a renewable energy contracting company and an auxiliary of Pepco Holdings, declared that it has entered into an accord to formulate and build a solar photovoltaic installation for the campus of Department of Energy (DOE) at Germantown, Maryland.

The project will be carried out as per the guidelines of the General Services Administration's Utility Energy Services Contract (UESC) with Pepco.

The total project began in October 2010 and valued around $2.3 million includes construction of a 300 kW ground mounted solar PV panels and installation of a 52 kW solar PV carport system over the car port along with a Class II type of electric car recharging facility. The project will incorporate monocrystalline solar PV modules produced by the Federal Prison Industries (FPI). The solar modules designed for the application has high level power generation efficiency and comes with a 25 year warranty. The ground array and the carport array is expected to become functional by July 2011.

On completion, the solar project will generate around 350 kW of clean solar power, which will statistically bring down the reliance of DOE on grid connected power and also will reduce the level of its greenhouse gas discharges.
