Pepco Energy Services, Inc., a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings, Inc. and a leader in energy savings performance contracting, has been selected to implement a comprehensive energy savings performance contract project for Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System (SBLHS) in Mattoon, Ill.
Pepco Energy will install more than $3 million in new energy conservation measures and infrastructure for twelve buildings which include a hospital, medical centers, office buildings and clinics. The project will include exterior LED lighting retrofits, building automation system upgrades, water conservation measures, steam system improvements, ventilation system retrofits and building envelope sealing.
In addition to saving energy, these upgrades will dramatically enhance the area lighting surrounding the buildings, while improving the patient and work environment internally through improved air distribution, control and reduced infiltration. The new and improved energy infrastructure is guaranteed by Pepco Energy Services to reduce energy consumption by more than 22 percent saving SBLHS more than $334,000 annually. “These modifications represent some highly visible capital improvements that will pay for themselves and result in a better environment for our patients and staff” according to Tim Kastl, director of facility services at SBLHS. Overall this project will reduce the amount of CO2 produced by 4.4 million lbs. per year or the equivalent of planting more than 630 acres of trees.
”Pepco Energy Services is pleased to have been selected by Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System for this exciting project which will not only save energy, but will also improve its operations and promote sustainability as well,” said Mark Kumm, chief operating officer for Pepco Energy Services.
Construction began in June 2013 and is expected to be completed in December 2013.
