Cimarron Solar Facility Commences Power Production

The Cimarron Solar Facility jointly owned by Southern Company and Turner Renewable Energy, a fully owned auxiliary company of Turner Enterprises, has commenced its commercial power generation.

The 30 MW solar power production facility is located over a 364-acre land site close to Turner's Vermejo Park Ranch.

The solar power generation facility developed and built by First Solar incorporates 500,000 numbers of 2’x 4' sized thin-film solar modules produced by First Solar. The Cimarron Solar Facility has entered into a power purchase accord with Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association for a period of 25 years. The power produced from the facility is enough to meet the electricity requirements of around 9,000 homes.

First Solar, under a long-term contract will continue to manage the functions of the solar farm and will also provide maintenance services. During the construction process the Cimarron Solar Facility employed over 300 construction workers to build the plant.
