BioSolar Completes Initial Property Tests for UL Certification of BioBacksheets

BioSolar, a developer of bio-based technology and materials for use in solar PV modules declared that its BioBacksheet production samples have fulfilled the requirements of the  initial property tests of Underwriter’s Laboratories (UL) and it anticipates receiving full-fledged UL material certification for them soon.

The tests are conducted to assess the worthiness of the Biobacksheets before allowing them for use in commercial production of solar panels.

During the initial material property tests for the UL certification the material is subjected to various tests such as to identify its combination of materials, limited discharge test, and test to assess its resistance to catching fire and others before certifying the commercial use of the Biobacksheets in the solar panels. The Biobacksheets will now undergo the  thermal index (RTI) test to review its electrical and mechanical retaining properties at a low level temperature through a thermally caused chemical degradation process. The Biobacksheet will receive an interim RTI value after completing the 90 day testing process.

The commercial solar manufacturers who look forward to utilizing the Biobacksheet in their solar panel production process need to submit the solar panels for the ultimate panel certification or re-certification under UL 1703 before releasing the panels for sale.
