Plug Power Supplies Extra GenDrive fuel cells to Central Grocers

Plug Power, a clean energy solutions providing company, declared that Central Grocers has bought extra 11 units of GenDrive fuel cells for its electric power truck fleet deployed in Joliet, Illinois. In total, Central Grocers currently utilize 231 lift trucks powered by GenDrive fuel cells at its grocery warehouse.

Since the decision to buy GenDrive fuel cell units offered by Plug Power instead of the conventional lead acid batteries to power its fleet of lift trucks was taken before commencing the construction of the new distribution center, the company avoided building  a separate infrastructure for battery charging and changing operations. The decision allowed the company to save money on its construction investment and enabled it to save the precious floor space required for such construction. It bought 220 units of GenDrive to power its truck fleet

Installation of GenDrive fuel cell units in the trucks enabled the company with increased productivity by saving on the operator’s time that otherwise would have been spent on  managing the run- down lead acid batteries. The fuel cells release only heat and water as byproducts due to the continuous electrochemical reaction and thus enable the company to reduce nearly 80% of its carbon dioxide emissions.
