Cox Communications, an auxiliary of Cox Enterprises, declared that it has completed the fuel cell installation in its facility at Orange County, California.
Earlier, the company has completed two fuel cells installations at its facility located in San Diego. Cox communication takes part in Cox Conserves, a national level energy sustainability program.
The 800 kW new fuel cell installation completed at its Rancho Santa Margarita facility will meet nearly 60% of the power requirement of the location. Earlier the company has installed a 100 kW solar photovoltaic rooftop solar array in the same area. The power generated from both the facilities can be equated to offsetting the carbon dioxide produced by over 850 cars. The 400 kW fuel cell installation at its Federal Boulevard facility meets nearly 60% of its power requirement. Its second 400 kW installation in another building in the same location covers 100% power needs of the building.
The fuel cell projects of the company at various locations are part of the country wide program of the company called Cox Conserves to lessen its carbon dioxide emissions by 20% by the year 2017. The program is aimed at promoting ecological friendly demeanor among its employees, other corporations and communities. The 1.6 MW energy generated from all its three installations is adequate to supply power to 1,200 average houses. In total the renewable energy projects of the company in various locations together reduce nearly 21,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
