Nypro Develops Renewable Energy Project in Mebane, North Carolina

Pioneer in the injection molding industry, Nypro has invested over $1 million in a pilot project at its injection molding and assembly plant located in Mebane, North Carolina.

The ongoing pilot project will pave the way for Nypro to design the most viable approach for using renewable energy and will be used as a prototype for its other plants.

Nypro Packaging’s Group President, Paul Kayser, stated that the renewable power project comprises two major components. One is a solar farm that will be installed on the roof of the facility to produce considerable portion of the power needed for plant operations. The company will deploy wind turbines additionally nearby to the facility.

Director of Corporate Communications at Nypro, Al Cotton, said that the pilot project will be ready by the summer. The company is working closely with several state officials and consultants to identify the correct blend to utilize and would modify accordingly, he added. He continued that the required number of wind turbines is yet to be decided.

The plant is located in an open, flat site that is best suitable for wind and solar power applications. The company invested $1 million in a solar power startup, Morgan Solar of Toronto in 2009. However, it is not associated with the Mebane project, Cotton said.
