Element Power Commences Macho Springs Wind Farm Construction

Element Power has declared that it has commenced the construction of the 50-MW Macho Springs Wind Farm situated in Luna County, New Mexico. Construction is anticipated to be over in August 2011. The wind power comprises 28 Vestas V100-1.8 MW wind turbines.

The Macho Springs Wind Farm sits on a 1,900-acre private land. Each wind turbine will be installed on a tower with a height of up to 80 m and the diameter of each wind turbine rotor is 100 m. Element Power will sell the power produced from the facility to Tucson Electric Power through a long-term power purchase deal. The power output of the project will be supplied through El Paso Electric’s already available line that passes via the project site. Mortenson Construction is managing the construction processes of the wind power project.

The Macho Springs Wind Farm is anticipated to generate more than $8 million in revenue to Luna County via the taxing authority of the county based on the project’s 20-year lifespan. The amount will be shared between Luna County and the Luna County School District to endorse public services.
