Wind Energy Development has presented a revised application to the North Kingstown Planning Commission for decreasing the height of the Stamp Farms wind turbine to 389 ft. from 427 ft.
In August 2010, the North Kingstown Zoning Board turned down the initial application to install a 427-foot wind turbine at Stamp Farms because of the size of the turbine.
The Chief Executive Officer at Wind Energy Development, Mark DePasquale proposed the revised application following the negative opinion from the public. According to the revised application, the diameter of the wind turbine blades will be reduced to 285 ft. from 328 ft. and as a result, the output will be decreased from 1.8 MW to 1.5 MW. The nacelle’s height that is from the basement of the wind turbine to the top of the tower would decrease from 263 ft. to 246 ft.
Spokesperson of Wind Energy Development, David Darlington stated that the nearby home would be 571 ft. from the tower base, fixing the setback distance at 1.46 times the height of the nacelle. As per the current town wind power regulation, the least setback distance for a wind turbine is in proportion to the nacelle height. The Planning Commission will conduct the public opinion on the revised application on February 17, 2011.
