San Diego Gas + Electric Contracts 25 Year Accord with NRG Solar to Buy Solar Power

San Diego Gas & Electric declared that it has contracted a 25 year accord with NRG Solar, an NRG Energy company to buy 26 MW of solar power from its proposed solar power facility in San Diego County, California.

The new project will be located over a 300-acre land site in eastern San Diego County and the desert site receives good amount of sunlight. The power generated from the plant is sufficient to power around 9,000 homes every year. This solar facility is the biggest that SDG&E has signed within its service area. The project when completed will boost the amount of solar power generation in San Diego County by 25%.

The NRG Solar contract in the Borrego Springs solar project is yet to receive the approval from the California Public utilities Commission. The project is anticipated to get completed by  the middle of the year 2012.
