Centrotec Sustainable, a company based in Brilon in Germany, has declared that its subsidiary company, Ubbink, has purchased a 60% share in Solar23. Solar23 aims at developing the African solar PV and solar thermal projects like off-grid solar solutions.
According to Gert-Jan Huisman, the CEO of Centrotec, this initiative was the company’s first step in the African solar market. He revealed that Africa would also emerge as a growing market for renewable energy and energy saving in the future years. Their plan is to meet the demands with innovative energy saving applications that would also contribute to the social responsibility of promoting sustainable development and preserve the diminishing resources of the earth.
Off-grid solar and solar power plants are included in Solar23’s core skills. It would be included in the Ubbink Group and would continue with the same management. Ubbink has noted that the core skills of Solar23 are in the solar system areas, which are not linked to the power grid and include solar lighting systems, solar home systems, PV deep-well pumps for drinking water, solar power plants, and power supplies for telecommunication systems. Ubbink reveals that Solar23 would be an excellent springboard for accessing the rapidly growing African renewable energy markets. It would also leverage the synergies of the East African PV module production facility for Solar23, which began operating in 2010 December.
