Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton is Ready to Utilize Green Solar Power

The Marine Corps base camp Pendleton, California will go green with the completion of solar panels installation. The solar installation makes  Camp Pendleton one among the ecological friendly military installations.

The solar system designed to generate 1.48 MW of clean energy every year will meet nearly 5% of the daily power requirement of the camp. The solar system producing an average of 6,600 kWh every day comprises 225 panels each incorporating 28-235 W modules. The installation is completed over a six acre of land area, which was originally utilized as a landfill site and closed in 2003. The solar installation is complete with a monitoring system to monitor the power production of the panels every day in real time.

The installation is completed with an investment of around $9.4 million having  received funding from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The base is planning to install a second photovoltaic system to achieve 10% renewable energy usage soon in order to meet the set target of 25% renewable energy usage by the year 2020.
