Saft, a designer and producer of Synerion E lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries, is chosen to provide renewable energy storage facility for the first ever micro-grid, distributed energy community housing project in California.
The 2500 R Street project is developed by Pacific Housing, a not for profit public benefit corporation for a 34-home community in Sacramento.
The individual homes are designed with strict energy-efficient technologies and constructed with a least time schedule stressing on avoidance of construction wastes. The homes are constructed with reduced resources to reduce the level of greenhouse gas releases. Each home will be fitted with a Solar Integration System provided by Sunverge Energy and an energy storage system from Saft. The energy storage system will be utilized to shift reduce the peak hour power demand, shift electrical loads and to increase the gains on renewable energy investments.
The patented Synerion E lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery supplied by Saft will be incorporated into Solar Integration System provided by SunVerge to gather the solar power generated and store it for later use by the house owner. The Li-ion technology utilized by the batteries will endure grueling weather conditions and provide a 20 year battery life needed for the project. The modular battery design has features such as better cycling capacity, low level maintenance and long years of life in addition to a smart self-diagnostic platform.
The battery also offers high level energy density, shorter response time and power potential in charging as well as in discharging conditions. It also offers right information about the charge status level of the battery, an important function required in dynamic storage system environment.
