IMPSA, Norte Energía Consortium Sign Supply Contract for Belo Monte Hydropower Plant

IMPSA and the Norte Energía Consortium have entered into a major supply contract for the Belo Monte Hydropower Plant. They signed the $479MM contract on February 7, 2011 at the Consortium’s office.

The Belo Monte Plant, with  11,500 MW capacity, would become the worlds third largest and Brazil’s largest hydropower plant. It is expected to commence operations by October 2015.

IMPSA, through its Brazilian, Suape-based WPE subsidiary is to supply the generating units with a total capacity of 2500 MW, along with the lifting equipment and penstocks. The company will also handle the design and production, start-up operations and supervision of the assembly. IMPSA would produce the hydropower plant’s components at its Suape facilities.
