Shaker Heights to Install Solar Thermal Units to Reduce Energy Costs

Shaker Heights officials have been granted $276,450 by the Northeast Ohio Public Energy Council for their energy-saving project known as "Transit Village."

After replacing 70 windows, which date back to 1951, at the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Community Center, the remaining amount of the grant would enable the authorities to install solar thermal units in 30 condos of Sutton Place as well as 35 houses on Sutton Road to provide the residents with hot water.

The solar thermal units would make up for almost 90% of domestic hot water expenditures annually. Since tax rates are high, Shaker Heights is looking for avenues, which will help them reduce energy costs.
